A memorial, and burial, for Matt will be held at 14:00 on Wednesday 30th July in the Much Hoole Woodland Burial Ground. Due to extenuating circumstances Matt will be cremated in a private ceremony before the memorial service is held.
Matt’s parents, Adrian and Sandra, were both interred at Much Hoole (https://www.muchhoolewoodlandburialground.co.uk/) which is a woodland and meadow burial ground that specialises in offering a more natural alternative to traditional cemeteries.
There will be opportunity for those who wish to make a short statement about Matt to attend and do so. If you would like a few words spoken but cannot attend you may send them to Mark Keating using m.keating@shadowcat.co.uk or other methods if you have a prior connection with him. If you do wish to attend it would be appreciated if you could let Mark, or Matt’s family know before Monday 28th July.
The ceremony will be non-denominational and areligious as this more reflects Matt’s own stance. He was an agnostic rationalist who saw theism as a branch of philosophy and sociology, more akin to an art than a science. The hope is to focus on celebrating Matt’s life and remembering what he brought to our lives. In Matt’s, typically profane, own words:
